I love pretty much everything about weddings. The invitations, the dresses, the flowers, the table decorations, the music, the cake, the dancing, the pictures, the favors. It all appeals to me.
But you know when you're in your car and you hear the perfect song for a wedding? Men, go with me on this. It may not be the perfect song for your wedding, but you can totally imagine your best friend or next door neighbor dancing away to this song for their first dance? Or you wish you'd thought of it for your wedding?
*Nod your head, please.*
Yeah, me too.
Surprisingly, Josh and I only had
Then there was "Bless the Broken Road." This was back in the day where playing that at your wedding was actually somewhat original because it was brand new-- at least to the top 40 charts. Did you know it was actually written in 1994 and recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band?
And then... my sweet honey sang a mystery song. The song he had decided long ago that he would sing to his wife at their wedding. Long before he was a legal age to marry, much less before he met me. Kinda prince-charming-like, huh? I didn't know he was going to sing, "I Will be Here" by Steven Curtis Chapman until he had the microphone in hand. This song was released when he was 5 years old. But man, is it ever timeless.
Sappy time over.
Although I was extremely Type A in planning the wedding, some things fell through the cracks. Like the reception music. I forgot to tell the DJ what songs I wanted played. I had the songs together, just never got him the info.
Luckily, we had an awesome DJ who played some great music anyway. But to this day I couldn't tell you what our first dance song was. It was pretty, though.
Here are a few of my other favorites:
1) I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack. It was supposed to be the father-daughter dance at my wedding, but the DJ can't play it if you don't tell him to. :)
2) Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. Okay, really, I can't stand this song. All I imagine when I hear it are unicorns and butterflies. But, remember how I didn't get the DJ the wedding music? Well, he made an executive decision to play this song for the father-daughter dance. It's the fall-back song, and it was the safest choice he could have possibly made. However, when Josh & I attended a friend's wedding last year, this song played. And a certain other life-long friend's dad got misty eyed. Let's just say that his daughter is getting married next month, and I hope and pray that they play this song!
3) My Little Girl by Tim McGraw. I have yet to hear this song and not cry. Not just tear up... I boo-hoo violently. Why? Because I have a niece who must play this at her reception. Why? Because she loves horses. And she is a total daddy's girl. If you haven't heard this song, I dare you to listen to it and not cry.
Okay... so maybe not everyone is a crybaby like me.
*sniff*sniff*
4) Memories of Us by Keith Urban. Josh's best friend sung this to his wife at their wedding. Beautiful.
So what's your favorite wedding or reception song?

My friend's dad sang "Butterfly Kisses" at her wedding as the bridesmaids and groomsmen went up the aisle, and everyone in the church was in tears! When it was time to walk his daughter down the aisle, it flowed into background music of the song. So beautiful and personal!
our wedding song was "the one by gary allen. but what ment the most was after my daddy walked me down the isle he surprised me by playing "i loved her first" i balled my eyes out and i am pretty sure everyone else did too!
I just went to a wedding two weeks ago where they danced down the aisle and their first song was so Edwin McCain's "I'll Be." Also, their reception played Ke$ha and "Forever Young" (that's AWESOME '80s song). And some musical theater selections (they are both music majors).
