Probably the most useful advice I've been given to date.

Being pregnant, everyone has advice.  Sometimes it's helpful, most of the time I've already heard it, and sometimes it's downright annoying.

For example, if one more person tells me to try ginger ale to help with morning sickness, I will throw something at them.  After 3 months of being nauseous, don't you think I've tried everything?!

At any rate, I was given some awesome advice that had never crossed my mind & I have never heard before.  And although it's not foolproof (is anything?) I'm pretty sure it'll save me hours in the middle of the night.

Are you ready for this?

Little ones will make a mess in the bed, whether it's puke, poop, or pee... it's going to happen.  And it's going to happen in the middle of the night.  So rather than having to change the sheets, sanitize everything, etc in the middle of the night, make the bed this way:

-waterproof mattress pad
-sheet
-waterproof mattress pad
-sheet

That way, in the middle of the night, you can strip one sheet & mattress pad & the other one is already made underneath!

Is it foolproof, surely not.  But is it probably going to save a lot of time & frustration in the middle of the night?  You bet!

Now I'm almost excited for my kid to have a middle of the night disaster.  Almost.

So, have any advice that isn't common and may not have been suggested?  And trust me, you'll have to go way out of the box to find something that hasn't been suggested-- but I'm all ears!

When I was trying to get my now-six-year-old to sleep in her crib in her room by herself, I would swaddle her in the t-shirt I had worn around the house that day. It helps them to feel more secure since they can smell their mama wrapped around them :) It certainly helped to sooth my little girl.

I am not sure if that's common or not- I learned it from the book, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer. It is full of useful tips!
