This is a well travelled road in my hometown. It's the quickest route to the highway for many people.
But the bridge needed some repair. So they put up some detour signs, closed the road off, and began working. It was February.
And they worked.
And they worked.... and worked... and worked. I'm sure they worked. They have to have, right?
But even after months and months and months and months of work, it still looks like this. Forgive me for being forthright, but can't bridges be built... quicker?
In my family, when a bridge needs built, they take a day and build one. Sure, it's wooden. But should it really take months and months on end? It's not a huge bridge. Two lanes wide. One car length long.
Lots of orange. Lots of detour. Lots of time. Construction started in February and is expected to be complete in November.
According to the locals, it's right on schedule.
Ten months... if they're not on schedule... then I really don't know what to say. I know these things take time, but 10 months for that little bridge?
Welcome to North Carolina. Where we see these orange barrels so much we start incorporating them into our culture:
"BarrelMonster" made by an NC State student... who got arrested for stealing the cones from a construction site. |

To be fair, I think that a giant rock slide in another area of the county may have diverted some resources.
