She's gone.

Alyssa
2.25.98 - 3.29.09

I first met Alyssa the summer of 2005 when I was her camp counselor. For the next two summers I was amazed at her calmness as she went through life. While most 1st graders were immature and filled with drama, Alyssa was quiet and observed the other children. She was the one I could always call on during Bible study because I knew she was paying attention and understood things about the Bible.

The only thing about Alyssa that frustrated me was that she was incredibly slow. Like, sloth pace at everything she did.

Two years later, we found out why. In February 2008 she was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma. From what I understand, it affected her adrenal glands first, which was why she always moved so slowly.

Yesterday, Alyssa went to be home with the Lord. She was 11 years old.

Please pray for her family-- especially her mother, who has already been through unimaginable hardships in her life. She will once again have to pick up the pieces that are left, and put her life back together.

Alyssa with her siblings in 2007 (I believe) right after her youngest sister was born. The woman in the red shirt is a close family friend.

Alyssa and her mom, who was by her side each and every step of the way. This woman is completely selfless and an amazing, strong woman.

Alyssa with clowns-- they dressed her up too!
